spicy but tasteful | edgy boudoir portraits in minneapolis
I love love love this session with Kalei and it is such a treat when a client feels comfortable sharing their images. Kalei is a talented tattoo artist and she wanted spicy, edgy images but trusted me to make sure they maintained to tasteful beauty in keeping with the rest of my portfolio. Yep, I think we nailed it! Here’s what she had to say in her notes both before and after her session…
Q: What sort of vibe do you have in mind for your session?
A: Edgy dark badass
Q: Tell me about what brought you to boudoir photography. Why are you here?
A: I’ve always wanted to to have boudoir photos and never felt comfortable enough to do so until now! One of my friends recently had some done so I took it as a sign to just go for it.
Q: How did you find Render Boudoir and what made you choose Britt over other intimate portrait artists? Did something stand out to you?
A: Good ole google machine, and I instantly fell in love with the images on the website. Didn’t even bother to look any others. I could imagine myself actually being in those kinds of images. And I was thrilled to find out the photographer (Hey Britt!) is a woman, I knew I’d feel way more comfortable with her than a man. I also loved the way Britt’s personality came out in the small amount of words she wrote on her website. So welcoming and warm.
Q: From booking to hair/makeup to the session, ordering appointment, product delivery, and communication -- did the whole thing feel like a luxury experience? What did you love about it and would you suggest any changes to make it better?
A: It did! I couldn’t believe I was finally in a spot in my life that I could do this for myself. I wouldn’t change a thing. I loved that hair/makeup was even offered! I never have someone do my makeup/hair for me so I felt so pampered. Literally felt like a model.
Q: How did you feel about the variety in your images? Was there enough to choose from in regards to full body, partial body, and detail/close cropped images? Was there enough variety in eyes down vs. eye contact? A variety of facial expressions to choose from? A variety of modest images and racy ones?
A: Yes! I loooove my images, they’re of such a big variety but still so cohesive. Definitely a variety of modest, racy, sexy, powerful and beautiful.
Q: How well did I read your comfort level and desired amount of "spice" in your images? Were you hoping for something more modest? More sexually explicit? More undressed? Or did I deliver exactly what you expected and hoped for?
A: Delivered what I hoped for and then some! I wanted the session to just take me wherever it decided to go so there were moments of modesty but also racy and spicy as well as simple and beautiful.
Q: Was this an experience you'd recommend to others? If they had reservations, what would you tell them?
A: Absolutely! The session itself is so fun, creative and makes you focus on yourself, feel your breath, skin and body. For someone like me who has a hard time putting themself first, it put me back in my body. And after seeing the images, I had a different view of myself. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel after seeing the images, thinking I wouldn’t look like I belonged in them, but afterwards, I saw myself in such a different light. An actual positive one.
It is such an honor to be able to share Kalei's images and her voice. Thank you, Kalei, for trusting me with your intimate portraits!
